Chiclana de Segura

The municipality of Chiclana de Segura is located in the east of the Condado region, in the anteroom of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park.

Located at more than 800 meters of altitude on a steep hill that defies an impossible geography, its viewpoints offer one of the most spectacular views of the entire province, covering up to four different provinces.

In this municipality you will get to know Jorge Manrique very closely, as this is where he was Commander and lived long periods.

In Chiclana you will also discover one of the few Interpretation Centers in Spain dedicated exclusively to the poet.

Chiclana de Segura’s connection with Jorge Manrique is due to the fact that the town became the head of the Assignment of Montizón administered by the Order of Santiago.

Chiclana de Segura pays tribute to the poet, in this case with the launch -in 2013- of an Interpretation Center dedicated to Jorge Manrique; with the identification of the Palacio de la Encomienda, where he may have resided; with the viewpoint of the Castle, where he lived longer and administered the Encomienda; and with the celebration, every year, of the Encomienda Festival, as well as with the recent creation in 2016, of the Jorge Manrique National Poetry Award

Although barely some paintings of its walls, towers, cistern and rooms are preserved, it has one of the greatest panoramic views that can be enjoyed today, reaching up to four different provinces (Ciudad Real, Albacete, Granada and Jaén). There are also numerous geographical features such as Sierra Morena, Sierra de Segura, Sierra de Alcaraz or Sierra Nevada.…

The entrance tunnel to the town was built in 1950 by the engineer Manuel Tercero Sánchez. Inside, there are 2 plaques commemorating this extraordinary feat of engineering.
